Located in the Gongga county 60 miles ( 100km
) south of Lhasa and put into operation in 1956, the Tibetan Gongga airport
has now direct flights to Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi'an, Beijing and Katmandu.
Most tourists enter into Tibet from Chengdu and Katmandu by flight. There
are daily flights from Chengdy to Lhasa
and vice versa: Chengdu ETD 0640am - ETA 0840am
Lhasa ETD 0940am - ETA 1125am Chengdu. All flights related use the Boeing
planes, which are managed by the China Southwest Airline. This is also
the highest airport in the world. Foreigners have to apply for Tibetan
Tour Visa from travel providers to assist their plane ticket booking.
