The East Tourist Region presents the characteristics of the rich and colorful traditions and customs of the the nationalities and the picturesque national scene as well. The main tourist attractions include the villages of the Miao and Dong, Zhenyun ¨C a famous historic town, the Wuyang River. the Maolan Karst Forest Natural Conservation in Libo County, the Natural Conservation of Fanjingshan Mountains and the Nine Dragons Cave and others. Kaili, a newly-built city located in the hinterland of the Miaoling Mountains, 196km away from Guiyang City and with the Hunan-Guizhou Railway passing by, is the capital of the Qiandongnan (Southeast Guizhou) Autonomous Prefecture and also the tourist center in east Guizhou.

The buildings in elegant minority styles may be found everywhere inside or outside the city. On festive occasions the people of the Miao, Dong and other nationalities will be dressed in their holiday best with silver ornaments, playing lusheng, or enjoying bullfight and horserace, or dancing and singing heartily. Duyun City is the capital of the Qiannan (South Guizhou) Autonomous Prefecture. The Guizhou ¨C Guangxi Railway passes the city.

After the liberation, the state attaches major importance to the economic and cultural development in this minority area, so that many key enterprises including the modern electronics industry have been set up in this region. Presently, Kaili, Duyun and other mountainy resources are being developed and exploited.
