Selected Content of Millennium China 2000

1. The Celebration Activities for 2000 Year Millennium China 2000 and Ice and Snow Festival.

The festival was sponsored by Harbin People's Government and the National Tourism Bureau. The opening ceremony for the Celebration Activities for 2000 Year Millennium China 2000 and Ice and Snow Festival, Harbin was held on December 31st, 1999 in the Great Ice and Snow World. This was also the beginning of the 16th Ice and Snow Festival in Harbin. The scale of the Ice and Snow World was unprecedented, which mainly consists of the Happy Square, the Voice of the Century, the Paradise of Adventure and the Cartoon World. The activities were televised live by CCTV to the entire country and overseas. The main activities of the Ice and Snow Festival are Exhibitions of Ice Lanterns, International Ice Carving Competition, Exhibitions of Snow Carvings, Winter Swimming, Skating, performances of skiing, ice sailing, sledges drawn by dogs, weddings on ice, various kinds of ice and snow sports competition and economic and trade exhibitions as well as other forms of cultural and sports activities.

2. Wudalianchi (the Five-connected Lakes) Water-Drinking Festival

This is sponsored by the Wudalianchi People's Government and was held in May, 2000. Wudalianchi is one of the most important scenic spots in China. There are various colorful tourist activities during the water-drinking festival, which include touring volcano geomorphologic scene in Wudalianchi, taking part in the activities of grabbing water at zero to drink, throwing away the stones causing illnesses, holding campfire parties and other folk custom activities.

3. Harbin Economic and Trade Fair

This is held on June 15th, 2000 and it will last a week. The fair is sponsored by Harbin People's Government and Heilongjiang People's Government. Harbin Economic and Trade Fair is the largest scale among all the Economic and Trade Fairs with main activities composing of exhibition of new technology and products, economic and trade discussion, cultural tourism and so on. Tour of border scenery is the most important tourism feature during the Economic and Trade Fair.

4. Acheng Jin Dynasty Cultural Festival

This Festival is sponsored by Acheng People's Government and Harbin Tourism Bureau and will be held on June 18th, 2000. Besides the grand opening ceremony, there is a one-day tour of the essence of Jinyuan culture and art, folks, scenery and places of historic interest.

5. Lesser Xing'an Mountains Forest Festival, Yichun

This is held in July, 2000 under the sponsorship of Yiahun People's Government. Lesser Xing'an Mountains Forest in not only a green natural kingdom, but also a paradise for animals. During the Forest Festival there are colorful activities including adventures of virgin forest, spending holidays, floating, fishing and appreciating the mystery and beauty of lesser Xing'an Mountains. Meanwhile, there are also activities of the Economic and Trade Fair and inviting outside investment.

6. Harbin Summer Concert

This is held in July, 2000 under the sponsorship of Harbin People's Government and the Cultural Ministry of PRC. There are group performances provided by specialized groups from home and abroad, streets and square cultural performance and colorful tourism activities. It will display the romantic charm of Harbin Summer comprehensively.

7. Sino-Russia Border-River Tourist Festival, Hegang

This is held in July, 2000 under the auspices of Hegang Government. The main activities are touring the primitive ecology of the Border-River by boat, the local conditions and customs of Russia, Ming-mountain Island, Heilong River, Mutual Beneficial Trade Area in Amerjat in Russia, watching Russian singing and dancing performances and taking part in other recreational activities.

8. Lesser Xing’an Mountains Floating Festival

The festival sponsored by Yichun City People's Government will be held between July18th, 2000 and August 18th on Dafeng River, Huland River and various others. The main activities are floating, touring the scenery of virgin forests, horsing, and fishing. There will also be exhibitions of tour products with Lesser Xing'an Mountains characteristics.

9. Qiqihar Crane-Watching Festival

This is held on August 12th, 2000 under the auspices of Qiqihar People's Government. Besides activities for the magnificent opening ceremony, there are also activities of touring of animals and plants in Zhalong Swampland and Economic and Trade Fair and exhibitions of new technology products.

10. Jingpo Lake Golden Autumn Festival

This festival is held in September, 2000 under the sponsorship of Mudanjiang People's Government. Main activities will include touring Lake Lanterns, colorful boats, volcanic crater underground forest, Diaoshuilou Rainfall, relics and Bohai Kingdom and customs garden of Bohai. Meanwhile, there are economic and trade consults.

11. Heilongjiang Tourist Exposition 2000, China

The exposition will be held between May and September, planned to be sponsored by Heilongjiang People's Government and the Province Tourism Bureau. During the period, there are displays of tourist goods, tourist routes in Heilongjiang Province from home and abroad, exposition of tourist goods, trades of tourism and items on inviting outside investment and so on.

12. Heilongjiang International Ski Festival, China

The festival will be held on December 5th, 2000 and will last a month. It is sponsored by the State Tourism Bureau, Heilongjiang People's Government and Harbin People's Government. The main area foractivities are Yabuli, Erlong Mountain, Yuquan, Tao mountain and some other skiing grounds. Besides the activities of the opening ceremony, there are figure skiing, platform skiing, alpine skiing, the making of snow by snow-making machine, motor performances on snow, activities of food culture with Heilongjiang characteristics, culture of black earth, expositions on tourism products and activities of inviting investment in ice and snow tour.

13. The First Harbin Ice and Snow Plant Horticultural Festival, Heilongjiang

This will be held on December 21st, 2000 under the sponsorship of Heilongjiang Tourism Bureau and Harbin Sun Island International Tour City. There will be activities of appreciation of Ice and Snow Plant Horticulture and all kinds of ice and snow recreational activities.

14. China Snow Village Tourist Festival, Harbin

This will be held between December 25th, 2000 and March, 5th, 2001 sponsored by Mudajiang Tourism Bureau and Hailin People's Government. The main areas are Shuangfeng scenic spots, Weihu Mountain Scenic Spots and customs garden of Russia. There will be activities of skiing, appreciation of snow scenery, photographing, watching performances of wildly training of the Northeast Tiger, cultural and folk activities of Weihu Mountain Film TV City.
