The Three Gorges offer some fantastic scenery on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. The gorges are named Qutang Gorge, Wu Gorge, and Xiling Gorge. Chongqing is at one end of this route, which extends a total distance of 189 kilometers to Nanjing Pass in the east. Unfortunately, these sights of the gorges will soon exist only in memory as the government has begun building a dam that will reduce the splendor of the most dramatic gorge views.
