Forest of Pagoda

West of Shaolin Monastery within walking distance are 241 brick pagodas where the remains of prominent monks from the Tang dynasty through to the Qing dynasty are entombed . To the northwest is the bodhidharma Cave in which , it is said the first abbot meditated for over nine years; to the southwest is a terrace and the Second Abbot Hut where Monk Hui Ke was treated for his wound after he cut his arm off. Scattered around to the east , south and north are ancient brick pagodas Preserving the remains of accomplished monks.

Not far from Shaolin Monastery is the ancient Zhongyue Temple, the site of the capital of China's Xia Dynasty, the grand observatory built in 1276, the archaic Song Yang Academy, China's oldest pagoda in the Songyue Temple built in 520 A. D. , the scenic Fawang Temple, and the Han dynasty tombs.
