Gan Fengchi became a well-known Wushu master during the reign if Emperor Yong Zheng of the Qing Dynasty(1662-1723) He was intelligence and courage were superb, he seldom fought, and refused to bow to power. Gan Gengchi, a native of Ningxian county in Jiangsu Province, was born small and fragile. But he loved Wushu from the very start.Later he learned Wushu from Monk Chao Yuan at Shaolin Monastery. Monk Chao Yuan, whose secular name was Zhu Fu, was from the royal family of the Ming Dynasty which was successed by the Qing dynasty. He became a monk and changed his name, in the hopes of learning Wushu for a chance to restore the rule of the Ming Dynasty, He taught Gan Fengchi with great patience and the student studied hard. After twelve years, Gan Manstered all the secrets of Shaolin Wushu. Under the influence of Monk Chao Yuan , Gan Fengchi Cultivated a personality of honesty and uprightness. One day he traveled to the capital. Emperor Yong Zheng summoned him to the palace and intended to make him his bodyguard. Gan Fengchi wanted to learn something about the inner circle. He went to the palace but found the palace too tightly guarded for him to learn anything . Looking at the short, thin fellow, the emperor showed contempt and asked , "What skill do you have?" Gan Fengchi replied, "Your subject can rise on air as lightly as a swallow; can sink into the ground as heavy as a mill stone" The Emperor ordered Gan to demonstrate. Breathing slightly, Gan rose up in the mid-air and lighted on a bush of lowers. Overjoyed , the emperor said, "How light he is!" before the sentence ended, Gan flew down onto the ground . Then he breathed deeply, his two knees sinking into the tiled ground. The emperor exclaimed, "Supernatural!" and ordered a reward for Gan. However , Gan Gengchi found an excuse and left the palace. |
