Monk De Jing

Chan (Zen) Buddhist Calligraphy by De Jing Monk from Shaolin

A thirty-first generation Shaolin Monastery monk, Shi De Jing, is a member of the China Calligraphy Research Institute. As a Buddhist from an early age, he practised calligraphy and martial arts from several decades. Not only is he an expert at many styles of calligraphy, De Jing brings Buddhism into his art and has created his unique " Chan (Zen) Buddhist style calligraphy ".

De Jing's calligraphy has been collected by well known dignitaries worldwide, including the president of the Korea Foundation Mr Shi Junhao, chairman's counselor the Russian State Committee for Physical Culture and Sport, Martial Arts Association Mr Gleb N.Muzrukov, and general commander of the China Xiamen Number Thirty First Army mr Lin Chao, Dillman Karate International George Dillman.

In the First Chinese Culture and Art Festival in Dec.1993, De Jing received first prize with his entry of Chairman Mao's poem. It was collected into the "Exceptional Works". In 1995, his small Kai style calligraphy received first price in the China International Culture and Art Expo. The work was shown on the National TV station. The same year, he received gold prize at the First Best of Chinese Calligraphy and Art Show. His work was collected intot he "Contemporary Calligraphers Encyclopedia" and " The Contemporary Artists and Calligraphers Encyclopedia'. He was invited to be the honorary calligrapher at the China Culture and Arts Research Center. in August 1996, De Jing was appointed editor of the " Collection of Contemporary Famous Calligraphy and Art Works". In October 2000, his work won the gold cup prize and became part of the "Two Thousand Years of Chinese Artists Long Volume".

De Jing has put on individual art shows in Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai in 1998, 2002 and 2004 respectively. In 2006, major Chinese magazines such as the "China Society Periodical" and the "Big Collectors" all reported on him and his work. China National TV station on July 03 2006 and the Satellite TV Special Report on July 04th both interviewed De Jing. The shows received high praise from calligraphers nationwide. De Jing was then interviewed and his work appeared on many national magazines, such as the "Legal Institutions Periodical" " Hongqi Periodical" " Henan Martial Arts Magazine" and " Business Market Watch Periodical".

De Jing, along with his monastery brothers, De Chang, De Chao and De Yang, are promoting Shaolin's spirits with their own unique styles.
